Elaine Sayre, Class 2 Assistant

Elaine moved to Ashland in 2009, with her two sons, Avery (21) and William (19). Her daughter, Kalila (14) was born here, graduated from 8th grade with the Dragonfly class in 2023 and is currently homeschooling. Having fallen in love with the Siskiyou School Community through festivals and work parties, Elaine determined to stay on. This year she is very happy to be assisting Anyel in the 2nd grade class.

She spent her children’s younger years at home, then volunteering in their schools and considers herself a forever student of life. Elaine is owner and head instructor at the Ashland Karate Academy on Hersey St, having earned her black belt in 2016. Teaching karate to children and adults is a passion of hers. She believes that as a system of self-mastery, karate can help anyone move towards becoming a better version of themselves, through their own dedication and hard work. She also teaches women’s self-defense classes, empowering women to set boundaries, speak up and fight back if needed.

Elaine spends much of her free time with her sweet hound dog Cornelia hiking around the valley or in the garden with the chickens, growing food for her family. She is interested in Arts and Crafts of all sorts, knitting (mostly socks), canning/preserving, drawing, painting, archery…. And finally she is always enjoying a good book or three.
